In order to help the governments of Mali, Mauritania, and Niger handle the urgent, enormous demands brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic and other shocks, WFP and UNICEF collaborate to undertake the project “Responding to COVID-19 through Social Protection Systems in the Sahel: Towards addressing the socioeconomic implications of multiple shocks.” This initiative involves providing cash transfers and supplementary services. In the long run, the initiative aims to improve the nation’s general ability to adapt and create social protection systems that are more child-, nutrition-, and shock-responsive. Through KfW, BMZ is funding the collaborative initiative.
