In light of political unrest, an increase in jihadist violence, and changing geopolitical alliances, this study explores the trajectory of the European Union’s engagement with the Sahel, concentrating on relations with the Alliance of Sahelian States (Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger). It evaluates opportunities for fresh involvement and examines the shortcomings of previous EU methods, promoting a practical, adaptable, and unique approach grounded on local reality. In order to preserve EU influence while striking a balance between strategic objectives, values, and regional stability, the study suggests modular programming, increased communication and mediation support, people-centered investments, and calibrated security cooperation.
