The Sahel region is experiencing a worsening humanitarian crisis driven by armed conflict, climate shocks, and mass displacement. As of 2025, 5.7 million internally displaced persons and 2.4 million refugees reside in the region, with over 31.3 million people in need of urgent assistance. Funding shortfalls have forced humanitarian agencies to scale back their response, targeting only 10.4 million of the 20.6 million previously planned. With just 18% of the required $4.9 billion secured, critical gaps persist. Concurrently, a cholera outbreak is spreading across West and Central Africa, with Nigeria and Chad reporting over 1,600 cases and 52 deaths, while neighboring countries remain at risk.
