Intense climate change effects, state fragility and conflict, and growing violent extremism are all occurring in the Sahel area of West Africa. In addition to weakening and undermining fragile nations, poverty, bad governance, and corruption intensify local concerns. The “Advancing Gender in the Environment: Exploring the triple nexus of gender inequality, state fragility, and climate change” research by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) clarified how the three elements interact and create crucial vulnerability. Social disparity is exacerbated by the Sahel region’s ongoing environmental and political instability, which strains already limited and delicate local economic resources as well as social infrastructure.
