The International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) and Niger’s long-standing collaboration is cited in the article as an example of how to improve climate-resilient agriculture in Africa’s arid regions. More than 400,000 farmers and more than 1.5 million people have benefited directly from the partnership’s introduction of climate-adapted crops, enhanced soil management, and creative agricultural techniques over the course of four decades. Increasing the impact of scientific research through better seed systems, improved soil fertility management, mechanization, and capacity building has been the focus of recent high-level interactions. In order to boost productivity and resilience, the partnership places a strong emphasis on building national agricultural systems, expanding proven innovations, and utilizing genetic resources. All things considered, the project shows how long-term, science-based cooperation can enhance food security, sustain smallholder livelihoods, and promote climate-smart agriculture, setting Niger as a model for resilient agricultural development throughout the Sahel.
