More than 100 representatives from governments, civil society, and international organizations gathered in Dakar, Senegal, for the 2023 Annual Meeting of the Working Group on Women, Youth, Peace and Security in West Africa and the Sahel (WGWYPS). The meeting’s main objectives were to assess advancements and reaffirm pledges to the Youth, Peace and Security (YPS) and Women, Peace and Security (WPS) agendas. With a focus on strengthening the leadership roles of women and youth in peacebuilding and conflict prevention, participants exchanged best practices, difficulties, and experiences in putting national and regional initiatives into action. The gathering underlined the shared commitment to incorporating gender and youth perspectives into peace and security frameworks and emphasized the significance of inclusive, coordinated efforts to address the region’s complex security concerns.
