Through the humanitarian-development-peace (HDP) nexus, the Sahel Resilience Partnership (SRP) is an example of a concerted effort to solve complex, overlapping crises in Burkina Faso, Chad, Mali, Mauritania, and Niger. The SRP uses multisectoral programming to foster social cohesion and resilience. It is funded by the German government and is carried out in collaboration with two United Nations agencies and Germany’s foreign development agency. Its comprehensive strategy, which is backed by a multilevel governance structure and a flexible regional plan, covers basic social services, climate-resilient ecosystems, food and nutrition security, and conflict resolution. Political unpredictability and the challenge of coordinating disparate institutional mandates, funding cycles, and programmatic frameworks are just two of the major operational challenges facing the SRP. The collaboration and related HDP programs must strengthen data exchange, seek localized convergence in execution, and pursue deeper complementarity in order to increase impact.
