The Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs commissioned the Accelerating Resilient Food Systems in Africa (ARFSA) Program, which is being carried out by the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) and promotes scalable, locally driven methods for food system resilience and landscape restoration. The Communities Regreen the Sahel initiative, which enables farmers and pastoralists to restore degraded land through Farmer Managed Natural Regeneration (FMNR) and other agroecological techniques, is being advanced by ENDS and its regional partners, SPONG (Burkina Faso), CRESA/INRAN (Niger), and IED Afrique (Senegal), through ARFSA. In vulnerable areas, these community-driven interventions strengthen food security, livelihoods, and social cohesion while restoring biodiversity and improving ecosystem services. The program speeds up the adoption of resilient agricultural practices by utilizing local knowledge and demonstrated skills, supporting sustainable food systems in Yemen and Africa. This cooperative model shows how grassroots restoration can effectively address ecological degradation while promoting climate resilience and inclusive development.
