A daring project led by Africa, the Great Green Wall was started in 2007 to fight desertification throughout the Sahel. By 2030, it hopes to increase food security, generate 10 million employment, and repair 100 million hectares of degraded land. The project has grown to 22 nations and currently encompasses a variety of initiatives, from sustainable agriculture to tree planting, despite obstacles including political unrest and financial shortages. The Great Green Wall Accelerator, a 2021 reboot, aims to enhance coordination and more efficiently monitor development.
