The current paper provides a thorough analysis of Chad’s social protection and catastrophe risk management practices, particularly in light of the country’s extreme droughts. It examines significant calamities from the previous two decades, existing legislation and government initiatives, and financial resources for crisis preparedness and response. The objective is to direct upcoming assistance from the World Bank’s Sahel Adaptive Social Protection Program and the Center for Disaster Protection. To better safeguard vulnerable communities in high-risk areas, some important proposals include enhancing the use of risk transfer technologies, fortifying insurance systems for disaster response, and growing safety net programs.
