The frequently disregarded links between the Maghreb and Sahel regions were the main topic of the Policy Talk. The conversation highlighted their close ties, particularly with regard to common issues like migration, climate change, and security. The necessity of eschewing the inflexible regional designations derived from colonial past was one of the main concepts. Rather, they advocated for more adaptable and dynamic kinds of collaboration. The discussion also emphasized how different European and African viewpoints on these common issues might be, and how policymakers should take it into account. The significance of dismantling academic and policy-related institutional silos was another important issue. By doing this, we may develop frameworks that are more historically accurate and inclusive of the realities that exist on the ground. In the end, the gathering promoted a change in direction toward closer cooperation and more candid communication between the European, Sahelian, and Maghreb partners.
