Regional stakeholders examined women’s historical and current roles in governance at the Sahel Governance Forum in The Gambia, which had as its theme ‘Women’s Leadership for Inclusive Governance in the Sahel – From Intention to Actions.’ Women’s leadership in pre-colonial countries and their continued support of democratic transformation were discussed. Implementation is still sluggish despite rising commitments to gender equality. The speakers underlined the necessity of specific tactics that give women protection, authority, and resources. Destroying institutional and cultural obstacles to women’s meaningful involvement in government was the main goal of the recommendations.
