The purpose of UNICEF Executive Director Catherine Russell’s visit to Burkina Faso was to see the government’s, partners’, and youths’ efforts to tackle the country’s pressing health, education, and child protection issues and to urge the international community to back successful programs that have been shown to save and enhance the lives of children. Over 2.9 million people, nearly half of them are children, have been displaced by insecurity in the Central Sahel, which includes Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger. Attacks on communities, schools, health facilities, and water sources have raised the danger of infections, child marriage, starvation, and recruitment into armed groups for youngsters.
