In the Sahel, droughts and erratic floods intensify tensions and conflicts between communities. As a result, researchers from the Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT (the Alliance), which is part of the CGIAR Research Initiative on Climate Resilience (ClimBeR), looked at how security risks in Burkina Faso and Mali might be caused by and interact with the effects of climate change. To confirm their conclusions and suggest the best course of action, they consulted regional and national stakeholders. Officials in both nations will incorporate these findings into their very first national climate security plans.
