From February 26 to 27, 2025, the United Nations Office for West Africa and the Sahel (UNOWAS) and for Central Africa (UNOCA) held a workshop in Dakar on promoting peaceful coexistence between farmers and herders and the appropriate handling of transhumance. In addition to officials of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS), the Climate Commission for the Sahel area, NORCAP, the United Nations, and technical and financial partners, the workshop included over thirty participants from various nations in these two sub-regions, including members of civil society groups.
