It is anticipated that millions of people in Africa would be more vulnerable to severe heat, floods, and droughts. Without appropriate response measures, up to 118 million people living in extreme poverty—defined as making less than $1.90 per day—could be more severely impacted by these climate-related disasters by 2030, according to the World Meteorological Organization’s State of the Climate in Africa 2023 study. The European Union-funded Enhancing Crop Productivity and Climate Resilience for Food and Nutrition Security in Mali (EU-APSAN-Mali) initiative is providing workable, locally based solutions. The project is bolstering food and nutrition security and resilience in the area by promoting climate-smart agriculture and community-led projects.
