More effective humanitarian intervention in six Sahelian and Lake Chad Basin countries—Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Chad, Mali, Niger, and Nigeria—has been made possible in 2024 because to OCHA’s Pooled Funds, which include the Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF), the Nigeria Humanitarian Fund (NHF), and the Regional Humanitarian Fund for West and Central Africa (RHFWCA). Together, these humanitarian funds have given the area $148.5 million so far this year, helping to combat famine, prevent disease outbreaks, combat hunger and malnutrition, and deal with shocks brought on by climate change. Additionally, these tools have been crucial in tackling issues related to protection, such as gender-based violence. They have increased the effect of their allocations and encouraged a comprehensive, regional response to crises that transcend national boundaries by using a strategic strategy.
