The most recent Cadre Harmonisé food security research predicted that by this past June, about 4 million people in the region will experience food insecurity, an increase of nearly 19 times from 2020. Over 25% of people in the towns accepting the newcomers don’t have adequate food. However, a new US$142 million plan from the IOM, UNICEF, WFP, and UNHCR seeks to provide a shared response to expanding needs. With the support of national authorities, it seeks to provide for the urgent humanitarian needs of over 500,000 displaced individuals, asylum seekers, and the host communities. However, it also establishes longer-term development goals, such as constructing infrastructure, local businesses, social cohesiveness, and community self-reliance.
