The USA is the largest donor of humanitarian aid to the Sahel. The Department of State in this press release states that another $80 million in humanitarian assistance will be spent to help Burkina Faso, Chad, Mali, Mauritania, and Niger, with over 20 million people currently in a precarious situation, and with “three million refugees and internally displaced people.” What will be covered is “critical protection, economic opportunity, shelter, essential healthcare, emergency food assistance, safe drinking water, sanitation, and hygiene services.”
