Glimpse: The goal of the plan is to encourage action to stop the Sahel and coastal states from experiencing more instability, war, and uncertainty. The new plan has a wider regional focus because the issues the area is confronting are international in nature. Norway’s long-term goal in the Sahel is to support the creation of a stable area that is marked by inclusive sustainable development and strong governance. But it will take time to make this idea a reality. In accordance with the timeline for the UN Sustainable Development Goals, the new plan is valid through 2030. The ultimate goal is to assist in reversing the downward trend now observed in the Sahel and certain coastal areas.
