In regard to the effects of climate change, this paper gives a general overview of the opportunities and limitations that exist in the G5 Sahel nations (Burkina Faso, Chad, Mali, Mauritania, and Niger). The paper primarily focuses on four areas of concern, with supplementary parts providing a synopsis of national policies and the anticipated effects of climate change in the Sahel. The four primary components are: “Climate change and migration,” “Adaptation and management,” “Low-carbon development trajectories and solutions,” and “Climate change and conflict.” The study is based on academic literature that evaluates possible adaptation techniques, shifts in migratory patterns, and causes of localized conflict; literature from international organizations and donors that describes prospective engagement regions and donor strategies and programs; and material recommended by sectoral and geographic specialists.
