Seasonal deprivation in the Sahel is large, widespread, but it can be anticipated and addressed (World Bank Blogs)

“Sahelian households experience large seasonal swings in monetary welfare and poverty, even in the absence of climate shocks. Even though the 2018 rainy season was considered “above average” across the Sahel in terms of the timing and reliability of rainfall, household consumption was significantly lower in the lean season, highlighting the importance of seasonality even when the agricultural season is good.”
